The Mystical, Magical Maca Powder

I've been hearing a lot about maca powder lately and so I decided to see what all the hype is about. Maca is a plant and the powder comes from the root. It grows in the Peruvian Andes and belongs to the brassica (mustard) family. Think rapeseed, mustard, turnip and cabbage.

People swear that it has many positive side effects. Increased energy - yes, please. Increased athletic endurance - yes, please. Increased memory - yes, please. And on and on and on. I think that someone was listening lately to my lady friends and I talking about all the things that are bothering us about getting oldER and created this miracle powder for us! The promises were too good to not try and so I found myself ready to purchase it and give it a shot. So far (it's only been a couple of weeks) I have to say I am loving it. Placebo effect, possibly, but if it works, who cares?

Here are a few things that I learned:

1. There are three colors of maca and two main forms - raw and gelatinized and it comes as a powder, capsule, or extract.
2. The raw version still has the starch in it and so it can be harder to digest but appears to be the preferred version if you don't have digestion issues.
3. The powder has a slightly nutty flavor that isn't amazing but blends fairly well in a vanilla protein shake.

This website has been great in my own education and next time I order I'll do it from them!
